Why I Hate Hiring Recruitment Analysts
In my opinion, the worst part of Football Manager comes when you have to hire the stats guys.
Here are 5 reasons why I find this task tedious:
They’re useless. Seriously — how much time do you spend pouring over data in the data section of the game? Do you really adjust your daily tactics based on some random graph? By the time you’ve got enough data to be statistically significant, the season is already over.
They cost money. Playing with a club that’s broke? If so, why would you spend any money on a person that does practically nothing?
Other people on your squad do the same job better. Recruitment Analysts are particularly frustrating because they don’t add any value. Nobody looks at their reports. The scout reports pop up first. Have you ever clicked on the player from that report to see what the recruitment analysts have to say?
The stats they provide are limited. Considering how much certain fans of the game drool over the stats, I’ve been surprised at how limited they’ve been. Most of the attacking stats consist of different ways of telling me that my strikers can’t score, and most of the defending stats consist of different ways of telling me that I should find a new job soon. When I want to know something useful, like whether I should sack the 35 year old slow center back and go for the 15 year old instead, the analysts are nowhere to be found.
The system is broken. I try hiring Recruitment Analysts who the game tells me want to be recruitment analysts, and they refuse. I then try to hire guys who the game tells me want to be the Director of Football, and they agree to be my Recruitment Analyst. Huh?
