We’re Playing Whom?
For some reason, we wound up playing against Arkansas State.
If you’re interested in random American college football trivia, it turns out that BYU has played Arkansas State once before. This was back in 1996, when BYU won at home 58-9.
We didn’t win by such a large margin, but we might as well have won by 49 points.
We had three new scorers this time around. Garcia, Gallagher, and Chavez all scored for the first time in our victory.
It was ugly, though, Chris Gallagher was sent off in the 90th minute after an absolutely ridiculous and unneeded two-footed tackle. He deserved to be sent off for that one.
Season Preview
One of the problems with having such an extensive pre-season period is that we’re still getting season preview information, even though it’s already mid-September.
As you can see here, the media have us odds-on favorites to win the Mountain West Conference. This is the third save in a row in which my team has started off being favorites for the title. Hopefully we can make it happen this time around.
Next time around I’m going to choose a team that isn’t already loaded with good players.
Players
Speaking of good players, it’s time to introduce two more.
First up is John Cornelsen, who we saw in today’s game running around aimlessly after the ball, pretending to be a professional striker.
Now, I should be nice to John. He’s only 16 years old, after all. He hails from Layton, Utah, which means that we stole him from the clutches of Utah State.
He’s got an issue with consistency. I’ve got no choice, though — and so we will play him.
Next up is Jorge Alberto Garcia, yet another winger.
Garcia is another player we stole right out from under the nose of the University of Utah. You see, part of the aim of this save is to beat Utah at every single opportunity, whatever the cost. We can chalk this one up as an early victory.
Garcia is 21 years old and looks solid.
The Big One
I’m not a huge fan of this “nonconference” schedule nonsense.
We just played Arkansas State, who were incredibly underpowered. And now we’re up against Alabama, one of the best teams in the country — and on the road, no less.
Heaven help us.
