The Best FM23 Addons
I’ll be blunt — the Football Manager base game isn’t all that much fun.
There are numerous problems: problems with player growth, problems with teams being unbalanced, problems with good young players only coming from a few countries, problems with having no logos and no other fun stuff, and on and on the list goes.
There are a few things that I include in every serious save I undertake. Let’s go through a few of them now.
The Daveincid Increase Realism Megapack
I don’t think I can ever go back to “normal” Football Manager again after trying Daveincid’s Increase Realism Megapack.
This fixes almost every single complaint about Football Manager I’ve ever read. This pack makes injuries more realistic, modifies youth ratings around the world, changes team reputation, changes budget structures, creates more realistic tax systems, updates certain player transfer rules, and on and on.
If you are interested in a realistic Football Manager save, you should start with Daveincid’s work. Nobody else does it anywhere near as well as he does. I seriously wonder why Sports Interactive hasn’t looked into hiring him.
The Metz FM23 Sound Pack
Metz has created the best sound mod I’ve ever heard. You have to hear it to believe it:
If you’re interested, see this FM Scout post. Please note that the version I’m using is the paid version, not the free version.
Nik33’s Agents Pack
Every year Nik33 comes out with a number of additions, including this fantastic agents pack. If you care that each player is represented by the correct agent, and that the player’s agent actually acts realistically, you need this pack.
Realistic Media
Similarly, this realistic media pack will ensure that you face questions from real-life journalists in the game, not random people that SI’s programming team have created. This is essential for the sort of full immersion saves that I prefer.
History Updates
Rob 396 and CFuller have done an incredible job researching the histories of various teams, trophies, and competitions. If you’re tired of seeing your squad set record after record for your 100+ year old club, you really need to start playing with these addons.
Here is Rob’s history pack — and here is the complementary pack by CFuller.
Enhanced Turf Textures
I love these enhanced textures by Fez007. It adds a lot of depth and balance to the game. They’re not difficult to install at all, and take up surprisingly little space. You can find them here.
Around The Globe Megapack
DaveTheEditor’s Around the Globe Megapack is legendary.
Before the computer glitch, one reason why I started off with FM21 was because of the access it provided me to the complete Around the Globe Megapack. Unfortunately, Dave was not able to complete his work in FM22. His FM21 pack, though, provides endless hours of fun, allowing you to start from a nation as small and obscure as Kiribati and move you way up to becoming the best known manager in the world.
There are other global packs out there. However, DaveTheEditor’s work is unparallelled in terms of accuracy, realism, and attention to detail.
Others
My two favorite addons aren’t on this list yet. They are still in production. You’ll hear more about them later.
