Taming the Bulldogs
Well, we certainly took out our frustrations in this one.
Grant Martin scored a goal after 15 seconds, Cesar Aldana had a hat trick, and we made Fresno State look simply awful.
Aldana won the man of the match, notching a hat trick despite missing a penalty and having some less than superb moments here and there.
The pundits are now calling Aldana one of the best players in the league, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the bigger schools came knocking on our door to try to buy him.
That would be a huge problem, of course. Part of the joy of Football Manager is selling your star players to larger clubs and then using the proceeds to buy good young players. It’s kind of hard to make that work when you can only buy 4 players a year.
Now, it is helpful to have a good supporting cast. Youngsters like Grant Martin are good to have on your side, even if their personalities might be somewhat, umm, lacking.
However, it’s absolutely clear that our offense owes everything it has accomplished to Aldana’s ability to actually score goals.
In other words, no matter how good our offensive stats look, we really owe it all to the guy who knows how to finish.
I just hope nobody comes in for him.
Championship?
Okay, this is strange.
We’re apparently playing in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game tomorrow, even though we’ve only completed 1/3 of the schedule.
It will be against Boise State, the team that we just drew against. And, oddly enough, the game will be in Arizona. I guess that’s why we’re favored to win… maybe?
I’m actually worried about this. I’ve got a team of players who hate playing in big matches. This is unmistakably a big match, and we’re expected to beat a team that we just drew against.
Tomorrow’s match is going to be a must-watch.
