Storytelling in Football Manager
Football Manager is all about storytelling.
The way we think about the game is wrong. We tend to think of Football Manager as a sports sim — a game that was designed to recreate the sport of football accurately.
Football Manager can be accurate, but that’s not what it’s really designed to do.
It’s actually designed to be a platform for storytelling.
As long term readers are aware, I’ve had my own attempts at story telling on this blog.
The longest one was the Yanbian FC save, which I thought went well — before the game crashed, that is:
Yanbian Beatbox | FM23 | Hardcore Mode
Sadly, this project has come to an abrupt end. The save file I was using crashed, likely due to issues with the editor data file that this save was based on. Please enjoy the story, though please remember that it is unfinished. I will keep all information in place as it was at the conclusion of this save.
I’m hoping to get back to writing Football Manager related fiction. It’s harder than it looks, though. It requires some forethought and planning, and, above all, requires a lot of dedication.
We’ll look back at some of the better known examples of Football Manager storytelling as we move forward. There are some excellent stories out there that you might not be familiar with — and we can learn a lot from them.
