RSL in the WSL Part 11
I’m willing to try anything at this stage.
Being at home has its perks. Our Head of Youth Development pulled me aside before our next match, at home against the first-place CD Guadalajara, and pointed to a kid I had completely forgotten about.
“His name is Kilian Schubert,” he told me. “He’s a first rate keeper. You bought him from Hertha for £475,000 a few months ago. Give him a shot – he’s better than you think.”
I figured I might as well give it a try. Up went Schubert to the first team, and down went Stott to the reserves. We’ll see if we have any more luck this time around.
Match Preview
We’re playing against Chivas – but this is the real Chivas, not the erstwhile subsidiary Chivas USA. CD Guadalajara are in first place, and are in excellent form. This is going to be tricky.
Tactics
Nothing new about our formation, of course – aside from sticking Schubert in at goal.
We’ve decided to go with nothing but youth in the squad. We’ll see how long it lasts.
The Match
Yeah, this was ugly.
We gave up only a single first half goal. It wasn’t too frustrating to give up one like that, to be honest. Set pieces are a problem for sure.
But the second half was horrible.
One goal led to another. which led inevitably to a fourth.
There’s not much I can say here. The defense looks simply awful. It looks like some of these players simply don’t care.
I gave the players the silent treatment after the game, and doled out numerous fines for poor performances. Morale is starting to slip, and I’m starting to wonder if I should rename this blog to “101 Ways to Lose at Football Manager.” And that’s even with a magical downloaded tactic!
Match Review
I think this is the 4th time in a row we’ve seen the “youthful ___ come unstuck” headline. It sure would be nice to see some variety. Actually, it would be a lot nicer to see a win.
Analysis
There’s really nothing good to say here. We looked awful. We were fouling all over the place, and didn’t really try to mount an attack all game long.
Greene has been sent down to the reserves after that horrible performance. I did the same for Mensah, who looks like he doesn’t know where the goal is. We may still need to shake up this squad.
Schubert was certainly disappointing. I’ll give him another chance or two, though.
Not much to see here, either. We just played poorly, that’s all there is to it.
Tactics
We’re starting to get pressure from the supporters to do something different. We’ll see how long this lasts. If I’m not careful, I might very well find myself out of a job. I do think we’ll be able to turn it around before long, though.
Standings
You know, as poorly as we’ve been playing, I don’t think that it’s time to panic. We’ve played four games in a row against four very good sides, and there have been little hints of potential in each of those matches.
I just hope the board see things my way.
