Ridiculousness in Pullman
This was a suitably ridiculous match for a save that is becoming more ridiculous by the day.
Our lack of depth at all positions absolutely killed us here. We went to play Washington State on the road in the first qualifying round of the College Cup, and played horribly.
It wasn’t all because of our lack of depth. Chris Gallagher was sent off before halftime after receiving two yellow cards. Robbie McNellis, another centerback, was sent off in the second half less than 20 minutes after he came on.
We also had problems with injuries, and wound up with 16-year-old strikers playing in various midfield positions.
We still came close, but we lost, 2-1, in extra time.
This was one of the worst matches I’ve ever seen, and reminds me slightly of the horrible final Ingolstadt 04 match that I’ve been trying to forget about.
We played well up until the first player was sent off, and then we fell apart.
You can see the same thing when we look at xG. We did well at the beginning, and then just fell apart.
I decided not to do any protesting about Gallagher’s red card, which is his second in this young season.
I also took the opportunity to absolutely slam the team, which made the press:
And, finally, the board is upset with me for losing.
My reply is that it would be nice if I could actually sign players.
Nevada
We’re playing Nevada next.
This is only our 4th home match all season, and is our first official “conference” match.
It’s been a ridiculous season so far, and I’ve got a feeling that it’s only going to get worse from here.
