I wanted to tell you about another one of these important mods before we really get rolling. This gives me a chance to get all the boring early season work done on my end, and hopefully provides you with some help as we move forward.
I suppose there’s nothing that scares me more than monotony. It’s not much fun to start the same game over and over again every time with the same old players and the same old strengths and weaknesses.
That’s why I decided to throw in DF11’s Legends of the Beautiful Game mod.
What does it add?
Basically, this mod adds in over 900 legendary players, all as young wonderkids.
Players born in the 1980s come into the game at age 18. Those born in the 70s are 19. Players born in the 1930s are 23, and so on and so forth.
This allows these legendary players to have long and productive careers.
It also means that the top level of the league system is absolutely loaded with incredible talent.
Let’s take a closer look and see what this looks like in action.
Famous Players
I think the first player anybody would want to see is Pelé:
No surprise here – he’s almost certainly the best young player in the world. An elite striker at age 22, with a huge reputation, perfect ability, the best personality in the game, and making a wage that Santos likely can’t afford.
How about Maradona?
He looks just as good, actually. Excellent attributes, high reputation, high ability, and clearly one of the best players in the world at the tender age of 20.
Johan Cruyff (here with the proper Dutch spelling) is another formidable young talent:
And even contemporary players like Messi have been transformed into younger versions of themselves:
Yes, this does mean that we’ll have to deal with many years of Messi, as he is back to age 17 with Barcelona.
There are hundreds of players like this throughout the database. The possibilities are exciting. One can only imagine the sort of superstar teams one could put together – if only the money were right.
Challenge
And that’s the point, really.
I’ve done some experimenting on my own in the past with this database. We all have the temptation to cheat every now and then. I’ve tried a few test runs with the greatest players of all time using an overpowered tactic.
The truth is that it really isn’t fun. It’s not much fun to win every game in a blowout. It’s not much fun to use the in-game editor to give yourself infinite wealth and to remove every semblance of a challenge.
And that’s why I’m using this database.
No matter how good our team is, no matter how well we do at using a min/max strategy to get all the computer generated wonderkids, no matter how much money we have – we’re always going to have to play against these types of players.
It gives the game some suspense, some meaning. And it also makes it challenging.
I’m looking forward to the challenge!
