I’m No Expert!
As I’ve been writing this blog, I’ve quickly discovered that I’m not an expert at Football Manager.
I can’t write the sort of in-depth tactical reviews that you see over at View From The Touchline. I don’t have the pre-game editor skills necessary to create something worth sharing on FM Scout. And I certainly am not one of those Football Manager players who can jump in and lead a team to victory right from the start.
But, you know what? I don’t care. In fact, I think it’s better this way.
Learning Together
You might have noticed that I’ve been struggling lately to find a good niche and voice for this blog.
There are a few reasons for this. I originally wrote game-by-game breakdowns of the exploits of whichever team I was managing. Those were extremely time consuming, however, and wound up becoming predictable and stale before long.
I’ve tried to condense those summaries into twice-a-week descriptions and let my YouTube channel handle the day to day exploits. However, I still find myself slipping into old writing habits from time to time.
One of the other problems I run into is the lack of time, that age-old demon that destroys even the best ideas. Blog posts don’t have to be long, but they do need substance — and that usually takes time.
And that’s why I think it’s time to modify the approach a little bit.
Instead of presenting myself as the expert on subjects I have no expertise in, it’s time for us to start learning this stuff together.
I think we’ll start off with the world of Football Manager tactics, a topic both deep enough and maddening enough to provide quite a bit of content. We’ll jump from occasion into other side topics of general interest, and see where we go from there.
I also hope that you’ll be with me along for the ride. Though only paid subscribers can comment, you can also always respond to the email to reach me directly. I’d love to hear from you!
In It For The Long Run
By the way, if you haven’t noticed yet, I’m in this project for the long run.
This isn’t about earning money or impressing people or anything like that. Rather, the purpose of this project is to reach out to the rest of the Football Manager community, to try to create something both entertaining and informative.
There are other blogs out there, yes, and other YouTube channels as well. Still, I think there is a way that the two genres can be blended to complement each other. I’ll keep working hard to find the winning formula.
