How To Hire Good Medical Staff
Hiring medical staff is the worst part of the worst part of Football Manager.
Staff hiring is really boring. Trying to find medical staff, though, is even worse.
The problem is that the game’s medical system is too simple. Physios are graded on a single attribute: Physiotherapy. Sports Scientists are graded on an attribute called Sports Science.
It’s not clear at all which role does what. Based on my research, I have a vague idea that Physios and Sports Scientists apparently do something to prevent your players from being injured and to help them recover more quickly. However, the specifics are extremely unclear, and I’ve never been able to find a guide that explained things well.
There are also doctors in the game, but you can’t hire them. You can’t even view their profile pages. It makes me wonder why they ever made doctors in the game to begin with.
Anyway, as usual, I’ve got a few basic tips for making hiring medical staff less painful. You do need to do it, of course. If you ignore it like me, you’ll see your best players go down with injuries in no time.
A few quick tips:
As is the case with your other staff, identifying these staff members by name will help. No, you’ll likely never have any interaction with them. However, you can come up with all sorts of juicy background stories for them. That should spice things up a little bit.
Physios in Football Manager are extremely overrated, and have been for years. There are so many Physios with perfect 20 ratings that you can use them solely to expand your scouting knowledge. Find Physios from countries with good players that are less frequently scouted, like Kazakhstan.
Try to find medical staff with real life stories. There are real life football medical personnel in the game. Can you learn who they really are? Without being creepy about it, of course.
You can also look for medical staff that can help with fitness training. I’m not sure what triggers this in game, though I have seen it happen. This can be very helpful for poor lower league sides who have no money.
Don’t ignore your medical staff like I did!
