How The World Super League Structure Works
I wanted to make a video about how the World Super League structure works. And then I realized how complicated it really is.
If you read its description page closely, you’ll realize that it’s never really explained all that clearly. I found myself somewhat lost in the game, trying to figure out exactly how the playoff system worked.
It took me a while, but I figured it out in the end. I figured I’d write about it just in case others have the same confusion.
Here’s a diagram I made up in the end:
Clear as mud, right?
We don’t need to worry about the confusing part quite yet. Kashiwa is down in Super League 4, which means we’ve got to be promoted 3 times before it becomes interesting.
The confusing part comes in the Super League 1 promotion playoff. It works like this:
Every second place team in Super League 1 enters the playoff. Additionally, 4 teams not relegated from the Premier League will enter as well. These are the teams that finish 81st to 84th in the final standings
To see how this works, I ran a full World Super League season while on holiday. Here were the final Premier League standings:
The “lower table” consists of the 32 lowest ranked teams at the end of the first 23 Premier League matches. They are divided into two groups, and the bottom 6 teams in each group are automatically relegated, as you see above. The next 2 teams advance to the playoff.
The playoff tables look like this:
There are 3 games per group. The winning team goes on to (or stays in) the Premier League, and the other 3 are relegated to Super League 1.
Basically — if you play this mod and find yourself in Super League 1, you really want to win the league outright. You want to stay away from this playoff mess.
