Exploiting The Target System
Sports Interactive introduced the “target system” as part of Football Manager 2024.
The idea is that you can set certain targets for players to reach before you’ll give them things like additional game time.
It’s pretty useful, actually. It comes up from time to time when you enter into contract negotiations. It allows you to sort of promise something that you might not be able to afford with a pretty major string attached.
Anyway, I discovered a bit of a trick.
If you require players to attain an average match rating of 7.5 or above, they’ll likely agree. They will also most likely not meet that criteria.
I’ve had a lot of success using this in my current save. I think I’ve used it about 20 times. There’s only been one time where the player blamed me for his inability to hit an average match rating of 7.5 — and even then it was easy to get him to stop being upset.
It’s not an awful thing to add to the game, though it’s clear that Sports Interactive didn’t spend a whole ton of time testing this feature. I’m guessing that the exploitive part will be patch eventually… someday.
