Derby
You knew this was a derby. Every time you’ve got a match like this in Football Manager, somebody gets sent off.
And, yeah, it happened today.
We won, 3-1, though it was a lot closer than it should have been.
Utah State went up 1-0, and looked in the beginning like they were going to score again. However, Grant Martin evened things up after about 25 minutes. Cesar Aldana then put us up by one, after which Gianluigi Novembre (what a name!) was sent off for an awful tackle.
Cesar Meza scored a third for us near the end, and was then promptly sent off for a second yellow card. Hey, it’s no fun if nobody gets sent off!
I don’t think I fully understand why Evan Boden is getting all of these Player of the Match awards, but I guess that’s the way it is.
In fact, he was also named the Player of the Week. I guess I must be missing something. I still don’t think he’s all that good.
Anyway, this one was the key match that everybody was paying attention to. There was a sellout crowd there, though the 25,513 that attended pale in comparison to the 65,000+ we usually draw.
As you can see from this chart, we really didn’t have much momentum at the start. This was the scariest conference match we’ve had so far, and it doesn’t bode well for the future.
That’s even more apparent when you look at the xG chart. Losing that player to a straight red card really was Utah State’s undoing. Personally, I think we got lucky.
Where’s the Other Stuff?
Quick meta discussion time.
As you’ve probably noticed, I haven’t talked much about transfers, scouting, or even player introductions.
The player introductions will come back, though I’m going to stick them somewhere else. I haven’t had the time quite yet to do what I’m planning to do with them. Just hold on tight.
Regarding budgets and transfers, the reason why I haven’t said anything is because there’s really no point in talking about them. This editor data file is pretty messed up. Teams will always have a surplus because they simply can’t find players expensive enough to buy. The 4 transfer per year limitation is really tough to work with, and the foreign work permit rules are completely insane.
It’s fun to play through this, but I’m honestly only going from match to match for now. I’m waiting for a few other editors to finish up their work before starting a real serious save.
And that’s why you’re not seeing more information at the moment.
Arizona
Yeah, we should win this one.
