Championship Game
As I said yesterday, we’re playing the championship game now, even though we’ve got 18 more matches to play in the season.
Don’t ask me why it’s like this. I didn’t come up with this schedule. And, no, it doesn’t make any sense to me, either.
Anyway, there’s no need to worry about it. We won, showing Boise State who’s boss.
Aldana scored the only goal in the 42nd minute. I don’t know how we managed to stop them from scoring, but we managed it.
We’ve won the conference, but haven’t won the league yet… or something. I don’t get it.
Grant Martin wound up winning Player of the Match accolades:
And, yeah, that’s about it.
Youth Intake Preview
It’s a little bit earlier than expected, but we’ve got a preview of our youth intake:
I’d normally scoff at this, but I won’t. We need to hold on to every single young player we have due to the transfer restrictions. If a big team makes a huge offer for one of our good players, we might not be able to find a suitable replacement on the market — especially if we’ve already used up our four transfers.
In short, we need every single one of these players, good or bad.
The LA Bowl
It turns out that this setup has “bowl games” in the NCAA College (American) Football style.
And, yeah, it’s not really a good conceptual fit.
I guess that “Championship Game” was a play-in for the bowl game. We’re going to the LA Bowl:
My first instinct was to consider this the Louisiana Bowl. However, I then noticed that we’ll be playing ato SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles again.
That’s just great. Why can’t we play at home in front of our home town fans? Why do we have to play so many games at neutral sites?
And why are we playing Texas Tech? Why can’t we play one of the teams above us?
Apparently the fans in California aren’t too thrilled, either:
I mean, to be frank, the whole thing seems like a waste of time to me.
Note that we are referred to as “Mountain West winners,” even though we haven’t actually won the conference yet. I dunno. It makes no sense.
And, yeah, this is our first division-AA bowl game final. It’s not the first bowl game in the school’s history, of course. It’s the first time we’ve played in a make believe game scheduled for… cosmetic reasons, I guess? I don’t get it.
