Battling Boise State
This one was simply crazy.
We came into this match as underdogs, and it showed in the early going. Maurice Ready scored for Boise State in the 20th minute.
Our massive striker, Cesar Aldana, countered with an equalizer in the 27th minute. And off we went.
This match had everything. Boise State won a penalty after an idiotic tackle by Alpha Doe, who missed a chance to take the ball away from the attacking player and then decided to foul him once he touched the penalty area.
However, that penalty was saved by Korn.
Ready eventually scored another goal in the 64th minute, which was countered by a miracle shot by Evan Boden in the 80th to tie things.
And then came extra time.
I’ve complained a lot about this editor data file and its odd rules. One of these rules is the insistence on playing extra time to decide a winner. I guess it’s the American sports tradition, but it seems a bit over the top for a league match.
Both sides struggled in extra time. Aldana did manage to score in the 116th minute, though, and then came inches away from a hat trick moments later.
Sadly, Ready was back to it, scoring his own hat trick in the 120th minute.
And that’s how it all ended: 3-3.
Nobody was sent off, which is surprising. Ready wound up winning the Man of the Match award, and he clearly deserved it. And, well, I feel exhausted just thinking about this one.
Fresno State
We’re taking on Fresno State this time.
Fresno State are technically our biggest rivals in the league, since they are currently in 2nd place. I don’t think they’re going to cause us much concern, though.
Everybody thinks that we’re going to win. I’d be surprised if we didn’t.
